Overview
Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward‑thinking talent to support the fast‑growing HVAC business in North America. The role focuses on light commercial and heavy commercial teams, working on advanced heavy commercial and industrial equipment.
Responsibilities- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
- Service centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, open‑drive screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon systems.
- Assist in commissioning and aftermarket service, providing solutions and upselling opportunities.
- Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
- Use company tools, uniforms, and vehicle to perform jobs and service customers to the highest standard.
- Participate in training programs to gain knowledge of HVAC products, sales quoting, and safety protocols.
- Maintain safety training certification for ammonia and hydrocarbon systems.
- Travel 10–20% to support branch customers, troubleshooting, installation, and repair activities.
- Work with local market mechanics, Servicemen, apprentices, and provide on‑the‑job training when necessary.
- Prioritize safety and maintain EPA refrigerants license and valid driver’s license.
- Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
- Minimum of eight (8) years commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC and Industrial Petro‑Chemical or Data Center environments.
- Experience with rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing.
- Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
- Experience installing complete systems (chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, mechanical supports).
- Proficient in mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, etc.
- Able to use vibration equipment to troubleshoot drive lines.
- Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
- Universal EPA refrigerants license and applicable state or local licensing.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Self‑starter with a passion to learn and apply on the job.
- Ability to write and communicate customer findings, causes, corrective actions, and provide quotes.
- Commitment to adhere to union requirements, including acceptance of the apprenticeship program within 365 days of employment.
