LUB Wastewater Maintenance Tech

For our state‑of‑the‑art 600+ person Lubbock, TX cheese and whey manufacturing facility, Leprino is seeking a Wastewater Maintenance Technician.

This position pays $37 per hour. An additional $1 differential is paid for hours worked between 6 pm and 6 am. Weekly pay.

Summary Description

The Wastewater Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, disassembling, repairing, and maintaining equipment in the wastewater department. Duties also include the safe repair and troubleshooting of malfunctioning mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation systems, the calibration of instruments, maintaining 5S standards in work areas and toolboxes, and performing mechanical, preventive, and predictive maintenance. All other duties as assigned.

Job Duties (Accountability Categories and Essential Functions)
  • Maintains all existing plant equipment and new equipment installation to ensure the movement of water.
  • Keeps equipment operating to meet compliance limitations and other operational set points within those limitations.
  • Maintains all auxiliary equipment for the processing and handling of sludge, including conveyors, augers, belts, sludge bins and heavy equipment.
  • Maintains heavy equipment used to move items around the industrial plants and activated sludge areas.
  • Maintains WWTP site grounds including buildings, storage tank areas, blower rooms, and pump house.
  • Reports and notifies to Group Lead, Supervisor, or manager.
  • Repairs gauges, flow meters, HMIs, and other controls as needed.
  • Performs job tasks assigned by Group Lead, Supervisor, or manager.
  • Performs routine equipment PMs, repairs, services, and cleanings as needed.
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
  • Will be required to work some weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Will work overtime as required to provide needed coverage as necessary.
  • Climbs weekly to the 35‑ft tanks as required to maintain operational components including sensors, probes, and other equipment items.
  • Maintains and calibrates process sensors and probes daily/weekly as assigned.
  • Exercises judgment and the ability to make decisions.
  • Completes assigned GMP and housekeeping duties. Maintains 5S standards.
  • Performs work in a safe manner by following safety procedures and policies, critical safety rules, and expected standard conduct.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend basic English.
  • Must have electrical experience.
  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment as needed (scissor lift, knuckle boom lift, variable forklift, front loader, and other equipment) with the ability to obtain/provide forklift and heavy equipment licenses when needed.
  • Welding skills including arc, TIG, MIG, and sanitary welding with the ability to design, layout, and fabricate.
  • Ability to read blueprints and P&.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in an industrial environment.
  • Experience operating and maintaining a water resource recovery facility (WWTP).
  • Ability to work well with others as well as outside contractors in a team environment.
  • Able to use computers and applications such as MS Office.
  • Must be able to perform the full physical requirements of the position.
  • Understanding of hand tools and safety usage.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Associate’s or two‑year degree in a maintenance‑related field.
  • Prior experience in a maintenance role.
  • Experience with stainless steel welding and fabrication.
  • Basic knowledge of utility equipment and operations (e.g., boiler and refrigeration equipment).
  • Dairy/food manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of government and industrial regulations (e.g., PSM, OSHA, and USDA).
  • Computer proficiency in email, Internet, Microsoft Office, and computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
  • Welding experience.
  • Mechanical repairs, including rebuilding of gearboxes and process equipment.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with AC frequency drives and instrumentation.
