Supervises the activities of workers engaged in a variety of public works maintenance and construction activities.

  • Supervise laborers and skilled construction and maintenance workers on maintenance, repair, and construction of public works projects;
  • Instruct the crew on the repair methods to be used and ensure that safe procedures are followed;
  • Transport crew members, tools, and materials to job locations;
  • Make time and material estimates;
  • Assist the supervisor in planning work and make work assignments;
  • Ensure that machines and equipment are available and in proper operating condition;
  • Write daily reports and keep time cards;
  • Perform related duties as directed.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent, with an additional three to five years of experience in public works construction and maintenance, including one year of experience as crew leader; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Physical exam required

Valid current Commercial Driver's License

Water:
Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening.

Water (Pipeline Maintenance) - Possession of a Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers license upon hire. Possession of, or ability to obtain within twelve months at least a Class "D" water distribution license with the ability to obtain a Class "C" water distribution license with three years.

Streets
- Possession of a Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers license. Prefer experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator.

Wastewater/Waste
- Possession of a Texas Class "B" Drivers license. Class C Waste Water License or a Waste Water Collection II License or able to obtain within 12 months.

Knowledge of:
  • The materials, methods, and equipment used in public works maintenance; hazards and safety precautions at work.
Ability to:
  • Plan, supervise, and assign work of a large number of employees;
  • Determine the effectiveness of and need for public works maintenance;
  • Make time and material estimates;
  • Establish and maintain effective working and public relationships;
  • Interpret plan specifications;
  • Communicate effectively with others;
  • Possess certification if required by the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand and walk during the shift.
  • Frequently bend and kneel during the shift.
  • Frequently push and pull objects.
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
  • Occasionally move body in a crawling motion.
  • Rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing.
  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
