Heavy Equipment Operator

Under general supervision, operates a variety of equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities, grounds, streets, and infrastructure.

• Operates a variety of heavy equipment including dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, forklift, crack sealer.
• Participates in mowing, trimming, spraying weeds, grass, trees, shrubs, removing brush, litter, debris, may paint curbs, cover graffiti.
• Assists with setting up and breaking down special events; prepares signs, traffic control devices, equipment, decorations.
• Cleans, inspects, performs routine maintenance on tools, vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

• Replaces residential and commercial water meters and meter boxes; locates and repairs water and wastewater service mains; installs new services and lateral lines; inspects City well sites and records well pump usage; collects water samples; monitors and repairs City sewer lift stations; replaces and repairs water pumps, motors, valves, and other parts.

• Required Experience and Training

  High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Required Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid Class B CDL Driver’s License required.
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
• Work at sites requiring exposure to extreme weather, hazardous chemicals, dangerous tools and equipment.

$47,563 - $51,220 annually (depending on qualifications) – Step increase after successful six‑month probation.
