DOT Supervisor and Driver

Position Overview

The DOT Supervisor and Driver oversees compliance and operations for all DOT-regulated employees—including CDL holders and non-CDL DOT-regulated drivers—while performing driving duties as needed and ensuring the timely delivery of equipment. This role ensures that all Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). are effectively managed and that operations remain compliant with federal and state regulations.

The supervisor provides strong leadership across both administrative and operational functions, serving as a liaison between team members and management, coordinating daily operations, and supporting long-term equipment reliability and team development. Key areas of focus include full DOT compliance with accurate, up-to-date documentation; clear and efficient supervision of team members; and a strong emphasis on safety.

Core Responsibilities General Duties
  • Supervise Lubbock truck drivers and monitor DOT compliance for all DOT-regulated team members.
  • Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service.
  • Promote hazard awareness and stop unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Demonstrate and teach safe lifting and handling techniques for heavy components.
  • Take ownership of tasks, learn from feedback, and treat setbacks as opportunities for growth.
Technical Knowledge & Expertise
  • Maintain expert knowledge of division Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and assist in developing new procedures.
  • Apply a full understanding of OSHA and DOT regulatory requirements and how they affect daily work.
  • Share knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) use for chemicals and lubricants.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work processes, equipment, and finished products.
  • Provide hands‑on training and guidance to drivers on safety protocols and standard practices.
  • Ensure forklifts, hoists, lifts, and similar equipment are operated safely and that loads are secured correctly.
  • Ensure proper processes are followed and equipment operates at optimal efficiency.
Team Supervision & Development
  • Ensure all CDL drivers and DOT-regulated employees meet safety, compliance, and operational standards.
  • Supervise, train, and support team members; assign daily tasks based on priority and skill set.
  • Set clear goals and expectations and monitor individual and team performance.
  • Coordinate work shifts to ensure continuous coverage and respond to absences or call‑ins.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coach underperformers, and recognize high performers.
  • Monitor punctuality, absences, and time‑off requests, and report issues to the manager.
  • Monitor and control overtime while maintaining productivity during work hours.
  • Onboard new team members and serve as their primary point of contact during their transition.
  • Plan and enforce preventive maintenance schedules for all major delivery trucks.
  • Act as the point of contact between team members and management.
  • Mentor less experienced team members and foster a collaborative learning environment.
  • Hold regular team meetings (typically weekly) and monthly one‑on‑ones with direct reports.
Project Coordination & Equipment
  • Lead or support projects involving new machinery or retrofits.
  • Coordinate with the purchasing agent on parts availability, timeline alignment, and documentation.
  • Ensure all delivery tasks are recorded with proper notes, timestamps, and photos.
DOT Compliance
  • Serve as the primary contact for DOT compliance questions and issues.
  • Oversee DOT programs, including hours‑of‑service (HOS) logs and training requirements.
  • Understand all DOT regulations pertaining to the driver and the vehicle/trailer in use.
  • Maintain Electronic Driving Logs (EDL) as instructed.
  • Maintain a current DOT medical card.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in a DOT-regulated industry highly desired.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role desired.
  • 2+ years as a CDL driver preferred.
  • Proficiency with a system such as SpringPoint for tracking work orders and maintenance history.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
  • Strong conflict‑resolution and decision‑making skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
