Looking for a meaningful job that can turn into a lifelong career? The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is launching a new Cadet Program, designed for motivated individuals interested in public service, teamwork, and professional growth.
As a Correctional Officer Cadet, you’ll gain hands‑on experience inside a modern correctional environment, working alongside seasoned professionals who balance safety, structure, and rehabilitation every day. This role is about more than security – it’s about leadership, communication, and making a real impact in people’s lives.
Cadets assist with the care, custody, and supervision of incarcerated individuals and support daily programs including work assignments, vocational training, education, recreation, and rehabilitation activities. You’ll build valuable skills, explore whether a career in corrections is right for you, and get an inside look at opportunities across HCSO’s five facilities.
Work ScheduleThis is a per diem, non‑benefitted position with a 40‑hour work week. Following the completion of initial training, cadets will be assigned to either a 4 p.m. to midnight or midnight to 8 a.m. shift on a rotating schedule.
Pay$25 per hour
Cadets who demonstratecommitment, professionalism, and strong performance may be selected to enter the HCSO Correctional Officer Academy, a full‑time position with outstanding benefits, including:
