K 5 STEM School Counselor

Primary Purpose

Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the assigned STEM campus. Counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities while supporting the unique needs of a STEM-focused learning environment. Promote student belonging, problem solving, resilience, collaboration, and positive student identity through proactive counseling services, social-emotional learning, and campus-wide culture systems.

The counselor will work collaboratively with campus leadership, teachers, families, and community partners to create a safe, inclusive, and student-centered environment where all students believe they belong in STEM and are supported academically, socially, and emotionally. The counselor will also serve as the campus testing coordinator and oversee all state and local assessment administration procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• Master's degree in guidance/school counseling
• Valid Texas counseling certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, career development, and state assessment procedures
• Knowledge of TEA testing guidelines, testing security protocols, and accommodations procedures
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Ability to analyze student data and develop interventions for academic, attendance, behavioral, and social-emotional concerns
• Proficiency with testing and student information systems including TIDE (Test Information Distribution Engine), TOMS (Texas Assessment Management System), and Test Hound

Experience

• Two years teaching experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Guidance Program

• Implement a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program aligned to district and campus goals
• Provide guidance lessons and activities that support academic achievement, emotional wellness, career awareness, leadership, and STEM identity development
• Support students in developing skills such as collaboration, communication, problem solving, self-management, and resilience
• Assist students with goal setting, conflict resolution, and positive peer relationships

Counseling Services

• Counsel individual students and small groups with identified concerns
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations and provide support services as needed
• Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies to support student needs
• Maintain accurate and confidential student counseling records in accordance with state and federal guidelines

Campus Culture and Student Support

• Support the implementation of positive campus culture systems and student behavior expectations
• Assist in developing programs and activities that promote student belonging, attendance, engagement, and leadership
• Work collaboratively with campus leadership to support the social-emotional needs of all student groups
• Help create a campus environment where students feel safe, supported, challenged, and valued

Testing Coordination and Assessment Management

• Coordinate the logistics of all state and local assessments, including scheduling, setting up test sessions, assigning staff, and ensuring testing readiness
• Monitor and maintain strict testing confidentiality and security in accordance with TEA guidelines and district expectations
• Report testing irregularities or security concerns immediately to the district testing coordinator and administration
• Train test administrators, proctors, and raters on assessment procedures, accommodations, and security protocols
• Organize, inventory, secure, distribute, and return all scorable and non-scorable testing materials
