Job Description
Position Title:
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Lab Teacher
Reports To:
Campus Principal
Primary
Purpose:
The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Lab Teacher provides high-quality, hands-on STEM instruction through the Project Lead the Way curriculum and aligned campus STEM programming. This position is responsible for engaging all students in rigorous, standards-aligned STEM learning experiences that develop academic achievement, problem-solving skills, and STEM fluency. The PLTW Lab Teacher implements effective instructional practices, maintains a structured and safe lab environment, and supports the district's mission to prepare students for future academic and career success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- PLTW training or willingness to complete required PLTW professional development and STEM camp for teachers (on campus)
Skills:
- Knowledge of Project Lead the Way curriculum and STEM instructional practices
- Understanding of the Engineering Design Process and inquiry-based learning
- Ability to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts
- Knowledge of STEM fluency skills including collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and resilience
- Ability to implement effective classroom management and instructional strategies
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction
- Plan and deliver Project Lead the Way lessons aligned to curriculum standards, PLTW Scope & Sequence and district expectations.
- Facilitate hands-on STEM learning experiences using the Engineering Design Process.
- Explicitly teach and reinforce STEM fluency skills during instruction.
- Integrate literacy, numeracy, and scientific reasoning into STEM lab activities.
- Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging lab environment.
- Implement consistent routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
- Foster a positive classroom culture that encourages productive struggle, collaboration, and learning from mistakes.
- Assess student learning using formative and summative measures.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Provide timely feedback to support student growth and mastery.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional staff, and administrators to support campus STEM goals.
- Participate in professional development and required PLTW training.
- Support campus STEM events, family engagement activities, and related programs.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with district and campus policies.
- Support student mastery of grade-level academic standards through STEM instruction.
- Develop students' problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Promote critical thinking, creativity, and perseverance.
- Help students build confidence and interest in STEM learning and future pathways.
