Job Title

Assistant Principal: K 5 (K 2 STEM and Grades 3 5 Elementary)

Primary Purpose

Provide instructional and operational leadership for a shared K 5 campus serving two distinct academic programs: a K 2 STEM program and a Grades 3 5 elementary program. The Assistant Principal will report to and collaborate with two principals, supporting both programs through instructional leadership, student management, campus operations, discipline, facilities management, and safety oversight.

Qualifications

Education/Certification
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Texas Principal Certificate or other appropriate Texas administrative certification
  • Certified Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS) appraiser (or ability to obtain)
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of campus operations and instructional leadership
  • Working knowledge of elementary curriculum and instruction, including STEM integration
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to interpret and use data to support instructional and campus improvement
  • Knowledge of student discipline systems and campus safety procedures
  • Ability to manage personnel, facilities, and budgets
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively implement district policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations
Experience
  • Minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Prior administrative experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Leadership
  • Support and promote innovative instructional practices across both programs, including STEM-focused instruction in K 2
  • Assist teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques
  • Participate in program evaluations and recommend improvements based on data and observation
  • Foster a collaborative, collegial campus culture and encourage staff participation in shared decision-making
School and Organizational Improvement
  • Assist principals in planning and implementing campus improvement initiatives aligned with the school mission
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of campus improvement plans
  • Support the collection, analysis, and use of data to track progress toward academic and performance goals
Student Management and Discipline
  • Manage student discipline for both programs in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and campus expectations
  • Ensure fair, consistent, and equitable application of discipline practices
  • Support positive student behavior and a safe, supportive school climate
  • Conduct conferences with students, parents, and staff regarding academic, behavioral, and attendance concerns
  • Ensure appropriate student supervision during non-instructional times
Campus Operations, Facilities, and Safety
  • Oversee daily campus operations in the absence of either principal
  • Assist with scheduling, staffing assignments, and campus logistics for both programs
  • Coordinate and monitor campus safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and compliance requirements
  • Oversee facilities management needs, including coordination with custodial, maintenance, transportation, and cafeteria services
  • Monitor student attendance and collaborate with staff to address concerns
Fiscal Management
  • Assist in compiling campus budget requests based on program needs
  • Requisition supplies, instructional materials, and equipment and maintain inventory in compliance with district procedures
Personnel Management
  • Observe and evaluate staff performance as assigned
  • Serve as second appraiser when required
  • Assist principals with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new staff
School and Community Relations
  • Communicate the campus mission and goals to parents and community stakeholders
  • Promote positive school-community relationships and encourage parent and community involvement
Customer Care
  • Maintain professional, respectful communication with students, parents, staff, and community members
  • Ensure timely responses to inquiries and requests for information
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented campus environment
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate professional and paraprofessional staff as assigned by the principals, including teachers.

Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands

Tools/Equipment: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals
Posture: Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent keyboarding and repetitive hand motions
Lifting: Occasional light lifting (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Work may involve extended or irregular hours, indoor and outdoor conditions, noise, and occasional district or statewide travel
