Transportation Engineer Supervisor – Lufkin District Maintenance (2600403).

Position Information

The Texas Department of Transportation is on the search for a Maintenance Engineer based in Lufkin, Texas.

This position will work closely with the Director of Maintenance and the Area Engineers to maintain Lufkin Districts transportation system. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for management of the district's routine and emergency maintenance contracts, including writing, reviewing, and managing project changes. Additionally, this position will assist in budget development and maintenance. Job Responsibilities
  • Acts as consultant to staff engineers regarding plan operations as they relate to administration, programming, design, construction, right-of-way and maintenance.
  • Assists in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to the district staff.
  • Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.
  • Develops and monitors budget.
  • Directs and oversees contractors' compliance with plans and specifications and authorizes payment of estimates.
  • Drives to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
  • Establishes, modifies or interprets applicable standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
  • Responsible for emergency operations.
  • Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education
:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience
:

  • 4 years experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
  • Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Licensed Prof Engineer*

* Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
