DescriptionThe Engineering Technician performs technical and administrative support for municipal engineering, utility coordination, development review, CAD/GIS mapping, GPS data collection, and infrastructure recordkeeping. This position reviews water and sewer service requests, utility and development plans, and citizen concerns; prepares CAD drawings and GIS maps; and assists with field data collection and project coordination.
Qualifications- Associate degree in engineering technology, drafting, GIS, surveying, or a related field.
- One year of experience in municipal public works, engineering plan review, GIS, CAD, GPS data collection, or related work.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement and a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of municipal engineering, utility coordination, public works operations, and development review processes.
- Knowledge of GPS data collection techniques, mapping software, and spatial data management.
- Skill in AutoCAD, Arc Map or ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, and related engineering systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, utility maps, and spatial data.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to provide effective customer service to the public and other stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Reviews, processes, and assists with water and sewer service requests, utility coordination requests, municipal consent applications, driveway and entrance permits, and road occupancy permits.
- Reviews engineering plans for utility locations, municipal servicing, and development‑related infrastructure to ensure compliance with City standards, specifications, and applicable regulations.
- Prepares and maintains CAD drawings, GIS databases, mapping systems, and infrastructure inventories using AutoCAD, Arc Map, or similar software.
- Produces maps and spatial data products for zoning inquiries, development review, utility coordination, and public works support.
- Collects field data using GPS equipment, surveying instruments, and mobile data collection devices to verify asset locations and support City operations.
- Conducts quality control reviews of spatial data, including accuracy checks, validation, and correction of errors.
- Coordinates with engineers, planners, public works personnel, utilities, consultants, contractors, and other departments on infrastructure and development matters.
- Serves as a City representative in communications with the public, property owners, and outside agencies regarding utility and infrastructure‑related issues.
- Responds to citizen complaints, concerns, and service inquiries, and coordinates follow‑up as needed.
- Maintains GPS equipment, CAD/GIS records, and related databases.
- Performs field inspections and other related work as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
