Skelton Slusher Barnhill Watkins Wells PLLC

About Us

Skelton Slusher Barnhill Watkins Wells is an established, full-service law firm in the heart of East Texas. With approximately 10 attorneys, we offer the sophisticated legal work of a larger firm in a collegial, supportive environment where every lawyer has a voice and a clear path to professional growth.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking first-year associates and lateral hires to join our team. Candidates should have a strong work ethic, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in becoming part of a close-knit firm and an engaged community.

Practice Areas

Our attorneys handle a broad range of matters, including:

  • Oil and Gas
  • Commercial and Residential Real Estate
  • Probate and Estate Administration
  • Water Law
  • Business and Commercial Transactions

New associates will gain meaningful experience across multiple practice areas with direct client interaction and courtroom opportunities from day one.

Why Lufkin?

Lufkin offers something rare in today's legal market — the chance to build a rewarding career without sacrificing your personal life. Enjoy a short commute, an affordable cost of living, and a welcoming community where attorneys are recognized as civic leaders, not just billable-hour producers. East Texas provides excellent outdoor recreation, strong schools, and a genuine sense of community that larger metros simply can't match.

What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Meaningful, hands-on legal work across diverse practice areas
  • A true work-life balance — not just a talking point
  • Mentorship from experienced practitioners
  • Opportunities to take on leadership roles in the firm and the community
  • A collaborative, respectful workplace culture
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice in Texas (or eligible for admission)
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • A desire to live and practice in East Texas
To Apply

Submit your resume and a brief cover letter. We would love to hear why small-firm, community-oriented practice appeals to you.
