Role Overview
The Assistant Executive Director is an active member of the executive leadership of the He/she will assist the Executive Director in all aspects of management, with an emphasis on leadership of planning and development programs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Executive Director with management of the DETCOG organization, including oversight of all programs and management of budget, personnel, and facilities.
- Act on behalf of the Executive Director in his absence.
- Oversee the Regional Services division, which includes programs and services in the following areas:
Community and Economic Development, Transportation and Transit Planning, Solid Waste Planning, Disaster Recovery and Mitigation, and other planning activities. - Oversee administration of grants from various funding Current funding agencies include the US Economic Development Administration (EDA), the US Department of Transportation (USDOT), the Texas General Land Office (GLO), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and others.
- Seek out new funding opportunities from the above-named agencies as well as other public and private funding sources to enhance services to the region.
- Collaborate with local government leaders, business and community leaders, and other partner organizations to provide stakeholder input and assist with regional planning.
- Represent DETCOG at the local, state, and national level.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to direct and organize program activities and/or business functions; to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions; to develop and evaluate policies and procedures; to prepare reports; and to supervise the work of others.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with DETCOG Board Members, local, state and federal agencies, elected officials, and community partner organizations.
- Excellent and effective oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Successful experience in grant writing and/or grant administration is a plus.
- Prior experience dealing with other government agencies and/or elected and appointed officials is a plus.
- Any combination of education, including degrees or certifications, and/or professional work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Bachelor's degree with at least three years of professional work experience or
- Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Valid driver's license proper vehicle insurance and use of vehicle to travel throughout the region.
- Flexibility in work schedule as this position will require participation in occasional after-hours events.
Salary:
Negotiable, depending on experience. This position is equivalent to Director II or Director III in the State of Texas job classification system. DETCOG offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, life insurance, retirement plan, and other benefits. There is opportunity for advancement.
