Overview

Woodland Heights has an opening for an RN PRN Days in our ICU department. We provide exceptional care for our patients and are looking for caring and knowledgeable team members to join us. This role involves patient-centered nursing care and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality outcomes in a supportive environment.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN coordinates and delivers care based on established clinical protocols and orders, collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure effective patient care and a compassionate environment for patients and families.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with organizational policies, protocols, and the nursing process.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and document findings accurately; report changes in condition to appropriate care team members.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and education informed by knowledge of human development.
  • Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and document administration per standards of practice.
  • Assist physicians during procedures within the scope of documented competency and skill level.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessments and patient needs.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and participate in life-saving interventions, such as CPR and code team activities, as appropriate.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights and needs, ensuring their voices are heard in care planning and delivery.
  • Provide patient and family education on medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care; ensure understanding and adherence to instructions.
  • Implement and adhere to infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
  • Monitor and operate medical equipment (e.g., IV pumps, monitors, ventilators) as needed for patient care and safety.
  • Promote patient safety by adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
  • Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate responsible decision-making in planning, delegating, and providing care based on patient needs and policies.
  • Document patient care and education thoroughly and promptly in the medical record.
  • Engage in professional development to maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current nursing standards and regulations.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, including data collection and process development, to enhance outcomes and care delivery.
Specialized Nursing Areas (examples)
  • Critical Care RN: administer medications and therapies, manage complex equipment (e.g., ventilators), and perform procedures such as central line management and advanced life support.
  • Emergency Services RN: rapid assessment/triage, emergency procedures, stabilization interventions.
  • OR Services RN: pre-, intra-, and post-operative care; scrub assistance and sterile environment maintenance.
  • Cardiac Surgery RN: continuous assessment, medications/IVs, life-support equipment management, post-operative recovery care.
  • Endoscopy RN: pre- and post-procedure care, vitals monitoring, patient education, and instrument management.
  • Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery/Postpartum/Nursery RN: prenatal care, labor/delivery support, pain management, neonatal care, postpartum and family education.
  • Oncology RN: chemotherapy administration, side effect management, patient/family education and support.
  • Orthopedics RN: pre- and post-operative care, peripheral/vascular assessments, immobilization devices, pain management, patient education.
  • PACU RN: post-anesthesia care, pain assessment/medication, monitor for complications, discharge planning.
  • NICU RN: vital sign monitoring, medications/fluids, feeding support, intubation/ventilation assistance, equipment operation.
