RN PRN – NICU Department

Woodland Heights is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a PRN in our NICU department. This role provides patient‑centered care through the nursing process and collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure effective patient care.

The RN provides patient‑centered care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role coordinates and delivers high‑quality care based on established protocols and physician orders.

• Coordinates and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered care in accordance with policies, protocols, and the nursing process.
• Conducts thorough patient assessments, documents findings, and reports changes to the care team.
• Utilizes knowledge of growth and development for age‑appropriate care and education.
• Administers prescribed medications, monitors side effects, and documents administration.
• Assists physicians during procedures within scope of competency.
• Collaborates to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Responds to medical emergencies, participates in life‑saving interventions such as CPR and code team activities.
• Advocates for patient rights and needs.
• Provides education to patients and families on conditions, treatments, and post‑discharge care.
• Implements infection control protocols.
• Monitors and operates medical equipment as needed.
• Promotes patient safety and maintains a clean environment.
• Participates in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks.
• Demonstrates responsible decision‑making and proper delegation.
• Documents patient care and education promptly.
• Engages in professional development and current nursing standards.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives.

• Continuously assess and monitor vital signs and distress indicators.
• Administer medications, fluids, and treatments, including respiratory support.
• Manage feeding needs and provide basic care tasks.
• Perform procedures such as IV lines, medication administration, and assist with intubation or ventilation.
• Operate specialized NICU equipment.

• 0–2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting.

• Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical practices.
• Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings.
• Proficiency in administering medications and monitoring side effects.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with interdisciplinary teams.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation.
• Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement.

• RN – Registered Nurse – State licensure or Compact state licensure required.
• BCLS – Basic Life Support required.
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
• NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation preferred.
• Additional requirements per facility or unit guidelines.
