Rehabilitation Assistant (Lufkin) (826789)
The public vocational rehabilitation (VR) program administered through the Texas Workforce Commission helps people with disabilities prepare for, obtain, retain, and advance in employment.
Responsibilities- Assists assigned VR Counselors in providing services to customers to achieve successful employment outcomes.
- Provides basic information regarding VR programs, services, and referral information to customers and vendors.
- Performs entry‑level human services/rehabilitation support work, including creating, maintaining, and reviewing technical case management forms/files for accuracy using the electronic case management system.
- Collects information for intake/profile process.
- Maintains appropriate business relationships with providers, businesses, customers, and staff.
- Prepares and reviews reports for accuracy on monitored services.
- Provides casework services/assistance to VR Counselors in certification of eligibility and service delivery tasks.
- Initial screening for individuals applying for VRS service programs.
- Participates in Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) training.
- Furnishes information regarding Texas Workforce Solutions (TWS)/VRS Program, services and requirements to applicants/customers/families/vendors/businesses/general public.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
- At least 18 months experience in office practices and office support work utilizing a personal computer in a Windows‑based environment.
- Experience in applying purchasing procedures; case guidelines, regulations and policies; case management support functions.
- Knowledge of community and government service delivery systems; mental illness and emotional components of physical illness.
- Ability to interpret highly complex policies/procedures, maintain confidentiality, and analyze/interpret highly complex financial data.
- Skill in interviewing and conducting individual needs assessments.
- Related work experience at all levels defined as case management support, purchasing and general knowledge of disabilities.
- RA I:
One year of full‑time qualifying experience in human services, social science, business, or a related field and graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent; 30 semester hours may be substituted for experience. - RA II:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework plus one year and six months of full‑time qualifying experience; one additional year of full‑time experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of required education. - RA III:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework plus two years of full‑time qualifying experience; one additional year of full‑time experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of required education. - Sr. RA:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework plus two years and six months of full‑time qualifying experience; one year of full‑time experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.
- Competitive starting salary: $3,333.33–$4,251.92/month.
- Salary and position level based on experience and demonstrated skills.

Experience as a Rehabilitation Assistant cited above must be in accordance with the career ladder requirements of the agency.
Position may involve working hours other than 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday, and involves travel up to 10% of the time, including some overnight travel.
All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
All employees must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, or qualified to work in the U.S. and not requiring sponsorship for an employment visa. Texas residency or willingness to relocate to Texas is required.
Position is designated as security sensitive according to the Texas Labor Code, Section 301.042.
