Van Operator

To provide efficient, timely, and correct transportation of the patients in accordance with local, State, National and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice. To also provide efficient and timely transportation of non-emergency non-ambulance patients and/or clients as well as miscellaneous records, supplies and equipment.

• Conduct regular shuttle van inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment for which the shuttle van operator is responsible is present, clean and in proper working order.
• Maintain full knowledge of the shuttle van's Basic Life Support equipment and its proper use at all times.
• Document and report all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments (electronics or mechanical) as well as to supervisors.
• Document daily logs of all transportation. Obtain patient and non-patient documentation. Complete other patient and non-patient documentation and forms as required by the company.
• Assist other medical personnel with patients as necessary.
• Provide careful handling of the patient to and from the shuttle van.
• Provide prompt and efficient basic life support care of the patient when needed. Immediately call for ambulance assistance as required.
• Provide safe and efficient transport of the patient in the shuttle van to the required destination.
• Provide a safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient‑care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.
• Upon completion of transport, place duties that will return the shuttle van and equipment to service.
• In the non‑emergency setting, operate/drive the shuttle safely and efficiently, following Allsafe Driving guidelines, ensuring occupant safety.
• Follow all FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.
• Attend all mandatory company meetings as scheduled.
• Complete assigned miscellaneous duties as required by the position.
• Order supplies and equipment from Purchasing to replenish shuttle van inventories as needed.
• Complete assigned shuttle van duties (washing, waxing, interior and exterior cleaning, etc.) as required by the position.
• Complete all required company reports and logs and, when necessary, provide other shuttle van and supervisor personnel with this information.
• If approved, orient new employees as directed.
• Perform other duties as required by supervisor or Vice President Operations.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current CPR certification as established by the American Heart Association.
• Current and valid state‑issued driver's license, equivalent of a Louisiana Class D driver's license.
• Ability to read, write and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers.
• Ability to write simple correspondence or reports.
• Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to other employees and/or managers.
• Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
• Skilled in the use of maps and excellent knowledge of the rules of driving for non‑emergency situations.
• Knowledge of common physical illnesses, minor and acute emergencies and their symptoms.
• Ability to act professionally as outlined in the standards of Acadian Ambulance Service.
• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with good knowledge of medical terminology.
• Skilled in the use of electronic communication devices, computers, radios, etc.
• Ability to deal sympathetically with patients and others.
• Ability to act professionally with other employees, emergency service providers, healthcare workers and the general public.
• Excellent knowledge of Company policy and procedure and the ability to perform to those standards.
