REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesA. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Management of Instructional Time
The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson; starts the class quickly; keeps students on task; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
B. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Management of Student Behavior
The teacher has established rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, and student movement; monitors behavior during all activities and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly while respecting students’ dignity.
C. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Presentation
The teacher reviews previous materials, introduces the lesson and objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts clearly, provides examples, assigns tasks with a high success rate, asks appropriate questions, progresses briskly, makes smooth transitions, and summarizes the lesson.
D. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance
The teacher sets firm standards, circulates during class work, checks all students’ performance with oral, written and other products, and poses questions clearly and one at a time.
E. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Feedback
The teacher gives feedback on in‑class work and out‑of‑class assignments, affirms correct responses, probes after incorrect ones, and provides adequate time for understanding.
F. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Facilitating Instruction
The teacher develops an instructional plan aligned with school and system goals, uses assessment data to revise objectives, maintains accurate records, and utilizes available resources.
G. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Interacting Within the Educational Environment
The teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
H. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties
The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as required, follows established policies, and demonstrates growth through professional development.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS – Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Training and ExperienceDegree in education or a related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions- Physical requirements consistent with light work; ability to use classroom equipment.
- Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, and physical communication skills as described for everyday teaching tasks.
- Ability to maintain safety, motivate students, keep a clean environment, operate office machines, file records, follow instructions, and establish working relationships.
Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $4,100 to $5,595 Per Month
