Location: District 1 Resident Engineers Office in Robeson County.

Responsibilities- Perform routine inspection on contractor construction projects to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and standard drawings.
- Maintain daily pay records and diaries in accordance with NCDOT Standards and Specifications.
- Ensure all materials incorporated into the project are sampled and tested per NCDOT guidelines.
- Monitor subcontractors to ensure adequate DBE or MB/WB participation per the contract.
- Conduct labor interviews.
- Perform entry‑level materials sampling, testing, and inspection.
- Promote a safe working environment and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Possess knowledge and understanding of general concepts and practices used in highway construction and design.
- Conduct routine inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standard/codes, and specifications.
- Withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties.
- Work in close proximity to high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- Communicate effectively with co‑workers, management, and the general public.
- Apply safety toe footwear and be able to legally drive a state vehicle.
- Must pass a successful NCDOT post‑offer employment evaluation.
- Ability to attain NCDOT certifications for asphalt roadway paving, concrete testing, density, aggregate and borrow pit sampling, and other required certifications.
- Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
- Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
- Computer proficiency including use of iPad and relevant software.
- Knowledge of mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry).
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Accurate maintenance of daily records of work accomplished.
Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
