About Us

Children's Health of Carolina, PA is one of the largest private pediatric practices in North Carolina, providing more than 115,000 patient visits annually across five locations in Lumberton, Fayetteville, Pembroke, Raeford, and Fairmont.

Our new Pediatric Urgent Care is designed to provide convenient, high-quality care for infants, children, and adolescents with acute illnesses and minor injuries. We are committed to delivering compassionate, efficient care while maintaining the highest clinical standards.

Position Summary

Children's Health of Carolina is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Pediatric Urgent Care team. This position is ideal for a provider who enjoys a fast-paced clinical environment, excels at evaluating and treating acute pediatric conditions, and is passionate about delivering exceptional care to children and their families.

The Pediatric Urgent Care provides same-day treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries during extended weekday evening hours and weekends.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Care
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute pediatric illnesses and minor injuries.
  • Perform focused physical examinations and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests, rapid diagnostics, and imaging when appropriate.
  • Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with current pediatric clinical guidelines.
  • Perform common urgent care procedures, including:
    • Laceration repair
    • Incision and drainage of minor abscesses
    • Splinting and management of minor orthopedic injuries
    • Foreign body removal
    • Wound care
    • Nebulizer treatments
    • Ear irrigation
  • Stabilize patients requiring emergency care and coordinate transfer to the emergency department when appropriate.
  • Recognize and manage pediatric emergencies until higher-level care is available.
  • Ensure timely follow-up recommendations and communicate care plans with the patient's primary care provider when needed.
Patient & Family Education
  • Educate parents and caregivers regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, home care, and return precautions.
  • Provide guidance on illness prevention and when additional medical evaluation is necessary.
  • Encourage continuity of care with the patient's primary pediatric provider.
Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with pediatricians, fellow advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, radiology, laboratory staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Maintain excellent communication to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in provider meetings, quality initiatives, and ongoing education.
Administrative & Quality Responsibilities
  • Complete accurate, thorough, and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain compliance with all clinical protocols, quality standards, HIPAA regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
  • Assist with mentoring new staff and students as needed.
Schedule
  • Full-time & Parttime
  • Clinic Hours Monday - Friday: 9am-6pm
  • Rotating Saturday coverage 9am-12pm (Approximately 1 Saturday every 4 weeks)

Requirements

Qualifications Required
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Active, unrestricted North Carolina NP or PA license.
  • Current national board certification (PNP, FNP, or PA-C).
  • Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain before start).
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications (or ability to obtain before employment).
  • Minimum of 2 years of pediatric clinical experience or equivalent pediatric urgent care, emergency medicine, family medicine, or primary care experience.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
  • Pediatric Urgent Care experience.
  • Experience performing common urgent care procedures.
  • Experience with Athenahealth or similar EMR systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with supervising pediatricians.
