This Assistant Principal role seeks a dedicated, student‑centered leader to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades 9-12.

Position Overview

The Assistant Principal partners closely with the Principal to ensure the effective day‑to‑day functioning of the school while advancing high‑quality instruction aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and DESE expectations for teaching and learning. The role requires a leader who can respond to real‑time student needs, build strong relationships, and maintain consistent systems that support both students and staff.

Core Responsibilities Student Discipline and Support
  • Lead student discipline with consistency, fairness, and a focus on growth and accountability
  • Investigate incidents, communicate with families, and maintain accurate documentation
  • Support students in developing reflection, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, DESE regulations, Section 504, and Special Education laws
  • Collaborate with counselors, special educators, and related service providers
Daily Operations and Supervision
  • Maintain a strong visible presence during arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, and common areas
  • Coordinate supervision, coverage, and daily scheduling needs
  • Respond to real‑time issues, including student conflicts, safety concerns, and family inquiries
  • Support school‑wide logistics such as testing, assemblies, and events
Family Communication and Student Advocacy
  • Serve as a primary contact for families regarding student concerns
  • Facilitate meetings and maintain clear, timely, and professional communication
  • Build strong partnerships with families to support student success
Instructional Leadership and Teacher Support
  • Support teachers with classroom management, engagement, and high‑quality instructional practices
  • Conduct walkthroughs and observations to ensure alignment to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Collaborate with grade‑level and content teams to analyze data and improve instruction
  • Support implementation of high‑quality instructional materials (HQIM) with an emphasis on standards‑aligned, knowledge‑building curriculum
  • Assist in facilitating PLCs and data team meetings focused on improving student outcomes
Staff Support and School Culture
  • Promote a structured, consistent, and supportive school environment
  • Provide guidance to staff on behavior management and student support
  • Assist with staff supervision and evaluation in alignment with DESE educator evaluation frameworks
  • Reinforce clear, school‑wide expectations and routines
Leadership and Compliance
  • Support school improvement efforts using data to drive decision‑making
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of:
    • Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks (essential)
    • DESE educator evaluation system
    • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
    • IDEA and Massachusetts Special Education regulations
    • Multilingual Learner (MLL/ESL) best practices aligned to DESE guidance (RETELL/SEI expectations)
    • Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements
Qualifications
  • Required:
    • Master’s degree in Education or related field
    • Current, valid Massachusetts DESE licensure as Assistant Principal/Principal (9‑12) (must be in hand at time of application)
    • SEI Endorsement
    • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience
    • Knowledge of Section 504, Special Education, and MLL/ESL best practices
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in a high school setting
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
    • Strong relationship‑building skills with adolescents
    • Calm, consistent, and solutions‑oriented approach
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
