At Babcock we are working to create a safe and secure world. As a Mobile HGV Technician you will cover our sites in and around Luton and provide first‑class servicing, maintenance and repairs on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs) and specialist fire service equipment to MOT and operational standards.
The roleAs a Mobile HGV Technician you’ll deliver high‑quality, on‑site maintenance and support for emergency vehicles. You will travel to locations within your specified area, sometimes operating from our Leicestershire‑based workshop.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities- Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs, LGVs and fire service modules.
- Diagnose faults using recognised test procedures, including road testing when required.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety and ISO standards.
- Record work progress accurately using company IT systems, liaising with the managed service centre and scheduling your own workload.
- Travel to locations within your specified work area to deliver mobile maintenance support.

Note:
The successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and medical examination as a condition of employment.
Full‑time (40 hours per week). You will work from fire stations across Luton Bedfordshire, supporting the New Dimension programme that maintains specialist emergency vehicles and equipment. Occasional travel to our Bardon Hill workshop near Coalville, Leicestershire, for team meetings is also required.
Essential experience- Proven experience in servicing, maintaining and repairing HGVs/LGVs and specialist fire service equipment.
- Hands‑on knowledge of hydraulic systems, including repair and testing.
- Strong attention to detail in fault diagnosis and compliance documentation.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience in vehicle electrical diagnostics (desirable).
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in servicing and repair of HGVs/LGVs to MOT standard.
- Full UK Class C driving licence.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and trade control restrictions which may affect eligibility based on nationality and residency.
