We’re looking for a skilled and versatile Vehicle Technician to join our team who pride themselves on delivering a high‑quality maintenance and repair service across a diverse fleet of heavy and light commercial vehicles, plant, and specialist equipment. In this role, you’ll carry out a wide range of technical and mechanical tasks, including diagnostics, inspections, servicing, and repairs, and maintain a wide variety of vehicles, equipment, and plant ranging from hand‑held strimmers all the way up to a HGV refuse vehicle, and everything in between – such as minibuses, vans, and ride‑on lawn mowers, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards.

You’ll play a key part in maintaining operational efficiency by working safely, effectively, and cost‑consciously, while adhering to current legislation including O Licence and DVSA maintenance policies, and strict Health & Safety guidelines. This is an excellent opportunity for a multi‑skilled technician who takes pride in their work and is committed to keeping a diverse fleet reliable, compliant, and road‑ready to meet the many different frontline services the residents of Luton rely on its Council to deliver.

About You

We’re seeking a highly organised and proactive Vehicle Technician who can effectively plan, prioritise, and manage workloads to meet tight deadlines. You’ll be confident working both independently and as part of a team, using your initiative within established procedures to deliver efficient and reliable results.

In this role, you’ll interpret and apply technical service data, manufacturer bulletins, and complex circuitry diagrams to carry out diagnostics, repairs, and modifications to a high industry standard. You’ll also be responsible for accurately reporting findings, providing time and cost estimates, and communicating information clearly, whether verbally, in writing, or digitally.

A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation within a busy heavy vehicle maintenance environment is essential, alongside a recognised qualification such as a City & Guilds Full Technological Certificate, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent experience.

This is a public‑facing role, so you’ll need to display fluency in speaking and writing English. We value professionalism and integrity, including the ability to recognise and take appropriate action where discrimination occurs in the workplace or service delivery.

This hands‑on role requires the physical capability to carry out repairs in both a large commercial workshop and outdoor settings, including moving and lifting heavy components.
