Job SummaryParamedics demonstrate competency in trauma and medical situations and possess the knowledge and the necessary skills to provide lifesaving interventions in a pre‑hospital setting. Administer emergency care and treatment, determine the nature and extent of illness or injury, and establish priority for required emergency care. Paramedics provide advanced medical care to patients, may assist and give direction to additional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Responder(s) at the scene and/or during transport.
They assess patients, transport to appropriate facilities, continuously monitor condition, administer care, and maintain comprehensive written documentation. Physical demands include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. The role may involve overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays. If hired into an emergency department, the paramedic will work collaboratively with the nursing team under the direction & supervision of the attending physician, performing EKG, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, respiratory management, orthopedic splinting, basic wound management, and other skills as directed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate’s Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred. - Thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices, and techniques; familiarity with equipment such as monitors and defibrillators.
- National registry status at a Paramedic level required; additional training provided.
- State licensure as required; in Minnesota, Advanced RN‑EMT certification accepted. Additional licensures (PAR, NIMS, etc.) as required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
