Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting in carrying out the responsibilities of the Controller and providing training, guidance and oversight for staff accountants. This includes assisting in all aspects of the organization’s monthly closing process, year-end audit and various financial analysis. The Senior Accountant works closely with other financial staff, departments and external auditors to organize and coordinate accurate financial reporting.
Skills necessary to succeed include strong math skills, knowledge of business principles, analytic & problem solving skills, tech‑savvy mindset, and good verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities- Ensures timely, accurate posting, balancing and reconciliation of the GL.
- Prepares work papers, financials, and other reporting for accounting & auditing.
- Promotes an environment of strong internal controls consistent with GAAP.
- Recommends enhancements to accounting systems & procedures to streamline operations.
- Reviews work completed by staff accountants to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting.
- Serves as a liaison for Finance, providing support and addressing needs of departments & stakeholders.
- Coordinates preparation of accurate & timely monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP with related supporting schedules.
- Directly interacts with external auditors & other regulatory reviewers and coordinates annual audit process along with the preparation of the audit report and related tax returns, as applicable.
- Interfaces with banks, credit card companies, vendors as it relates to financial needs.
- Supervises a team of accountants. Develops/implements cross‑training to retain knowledge as attrition occurs.
- Evaluates/analyzes team's process documentation to determine weaknesses and suggest areas for improvement.
- Evaluates team's level of effort and balances workload.
- Provides ad‑hoc analysis and other related duties as needed.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested; job specifications can be modified or updated at any time.
- Required Education
:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting. - Preferred Education
:
Masters Degree. - Required Experience
: 7+ years in Accounting field with increasing levels of responsibility preferred. - Required Certification
: CPA or relative professional Designation (Enrolled Agent, Audit Professional).
