Office Administrator/ Coordinator
The Graduate Assistant for Academic Affairs for Athletics will support the Academic Coordinator Program by providing professional level academic support for student‑athletes across 20 NCAA Division I Programs including course registration, academic support, tutorial referrals, grade checks, compliance, and eligibility monitoring.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Supervise and monitor student‑athletes, tutors, and mentors in daytime and evening structured academic enhancement, including individual and tutor sessions.
- Facilitate the creation and regular updating of multiple administrative reports, including academic reports, academic enhancement attendance, and daily reports as they relate to student‑athlete academic progress.
- Determine the academic support needs of an assigned group of student‑athletes through regular one‑on‑one meetings and keep accurate records of grade reports.
- Assist in engaging student‑athletes in the course selection and registration process.
- Design and present trainings to tutors and mentors on topics related to increasing effectiveness in working with student‑athletes.
- Participate in staff trainings and mandatory orientations.
- Assist with presentations made to prospective student‑athletes during official and unofficial on‑campus visits.
- Provide accurate and timely communication and reports to learning specialist and academic coordinator staff members.
- Regularly assist any staff member in need of administrative support.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
This position does not have specific supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and CredentialsEducation and Experience
– Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Available to work a flexible schedule including at least 2 assigned nights and weekends.
- Demonstrated effectiveness working collaboratively with a diverse group of students and staff.
- Prior experience working with undergraduates in a university setting.
- A sincere interest in athletic academic counseling as a profession.
- Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well‑articulated information.
- Ability to understand, speak, and write English in an articulate and professional manner.
- Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government, and community customers and associates.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Computer and scheduling skills.
- Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Required to travel to local, campus locations, and occasional team travel. May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. Regularly required to hear and speak to effectively communicate orally. Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business. Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
WorkingConditions Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate‑controlled setting. It is well lit, and the noise level is moderate. Working environment also includes facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.
Driving RequirementsUse of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
