About

The Role

U.S. Pipe is seeking a Purchasing Manager to join our team. Responsible for developing strategies, planning, and managing all purchasing and storeroom activities for the Lynchburg Plant. This includes the cost‑effective procurement of raw materials, MRO parts, tools, non‑Cap Ex equipment, services, and supplies necessary for plant operations, and ensures materials are received and distributed in a timely and accurate manner.

Establishes and maintains positive supplier relationships, coordinates internal stakeholder requirements, and provides leadership and direction to purchasing department staff.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the purchasing strategies and activities for the Lynchburg plant consistent with company policies, so that sufficient inventory of material is available for efficient plant operations at the lowest cost possible, coordinating non‑stores material purchasing with Operations.
  • Executes purchase orders and manages supply of products and services that are negotiated by central purchasing, ensuring compliance to supply agreements.
  • Develops supplier relationships for materials and services not negotiated by central purchasing and negotiates with vendor representatives to obtain the best prices and service performance.
  • Assures the efficient operation of the Storeroom including proper receipt and dispersal of material; timely and accurate entry of requisitions, receipts, and payment documentation into the plant operating system (ERP); processing of certificate of insurance and indemnity agreements; and maintenance of accurate inventories including cycle counts.
  • Advises Plant Manager and staff members of market conditions and trends that could affect purchasing decisions and assists in preparation of the annual budget and forecasting of material needs and pricing.
  • Coordinates the delivery and pick‑up of rental equipment between plant personnel and vendors and assists with the disposition of surplus materials and/or equipment.
  • Provides leadership, development, and performance management for purchasing department staff, ensuring proper training and alignment with company objectives.
  • Ensures all work performed in the Storeroom and Purchasing areas is performed in a safe and efficient manner and that work areas are maintained in a neat and orderly condition.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required in business administration or a related field.
  • 5‑10 years of experience as a purchasing manager in an industrial environment or in a similar position.
  • Advanced knowledge of purchasing, negotiating and inventory processes, including proven application of supply chain management practices.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be a good team player.
  • Must have experience with ERP systems and strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • CPM or similar certification is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently. Supervisory experience required; will manage supervisory and professional staff.
