We are a mid‑sized residential construction company in Virginia looking for a dependable General Construction Helper to join our team. We work on a wide range of residential construction projects, including new homes, renovations, repairs, remodeling, punch‑out work, site preparation, framing support, material handling, cleanup, and general jobsite assistance.
Position SummaryThe General Construction Helper will support carpenters, crew leaders, project leads, and field supervisors on residential construction jobsites. Daily tasks may include moving materials, preparing work areas, assisting with basic construction tasks, cleaning jobsites, loading and unloading tools, helping protect finished surfaces, and performing general labor as needed.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, physically capable, respectful, willing to learn, and interested in growing with the company over time. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Responsibilities- Assist carpenters, crew leaders, and supervisors with daily construction tasks.
- Load, unload, move, organize, and stage building materials, tools, and equipment.
- Keep jobsites clean, safe, and organized throughout the workday.
- Perform general construction labor, demolition, cleanup, and punch‑out support.
- Help prepare work areas and protect floors, walls, doors, trim, and finished surfaces.
- Assist with framing, trim, siding, decks, remodeling, repairs, and other residential construction tasks as needed.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Use basic hand tools and power tools safely when trained.
- Maintain awareness of jobsite safety hazards.
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
- Show up on time and ready to work each day.
- Learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as experience grows.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Reliable personal vehicle/transportation.
- Ability to report directly to jobsites as needed.
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.

- Must be drug‑free and able to work safely on active construction sites.
- Prior experience in residential construction, remodeling, carpentry, framing, demolition, or general labor.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
- Experience working on active jobsites.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
- Experience with jobsite cleanup, material staging, or punch‑out work.
- Interest in growing into a skilled trade position, carpenter role, crew lead role, or a long‑term construction career.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull construction materials.
- Stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work with your hands throughout the day.
- Work in crawl spaces, on ladders, or around active construction areas when needed.
- Work safely around tools, equipment, vehicles, and other trades.
- Perform physically demanding tasks in a construction environment.
- Full‑time position
- Monday through Friday
- Occasional overtime or weekend work depending on project needs.

Compensation is based on experience, reliability, work ethic, and skill level. Applicants with construction experience, tool knowledge, strong references, and a proven track record of dependable performance may qualify for higher starting pay.
