Building Administrator Date: 01/29/2026 POSITION SUMMARY
  • The elementary school librarian supports the school's instructional program by supervising and managing a media center rich in instructional materials and topics of interest for students. Services include providing teachers with materials and resources to support the curriculum and to ensure that the library/media center is aligned with instructional programs in the school. In addition, the librarian introduces students to literature that broadens their interests and reinforces skills necessary to locate and utilize information.
ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS Instruction
  • Provides instruction and guidance to students in information literacy, teaching students how to navigate resources, and how to be safe, effective users of information.
  • Cooperates with staff: sharing effective media resources, providing materials for units of instruction, and creating educational experiences through collaborative planning.
  • Library Programs
  • Plans the school library program to meet the needs of a culturally diverse population
  • Maintains a collection that is current and meets the needs of the school community.
  • Administration
  • Manages acquisitions and maintains an accurate inventory of library resources.
  • Allocates a library budget based on school goals and the goals of the library program.
  • Shares data that gives insight into the use of the library and fund allocations.
  • Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and makes changes based on the findings.
  • Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the library/media services area.
  • Student Management
  • Creates a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
  • Carries out discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Communication
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Ability to Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward the school library.
  • Maintains a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and school staff.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. Effectively shares the policies and procedures of the library to all stakeholders.
