Adjunct Instructor of Guitar
Part-time, Non-exempt
Reports to Head of Music Program
Provide weekly individual guitar instruction to students enrolled in lessons each seven-week session. Prepare music minors to satisfy jury requirements as needed. Recommend and prepare students for public performance according to Department of Performing Arts schedule. Foster artistic and personal growth of students through musical study.
This position reports to the Program Head of Music and the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts.
Essential functions
- In consultation with the Head of Music Program, design and submit course syllabus before classes begin.
- Assess potential and skill level of each student and guide individual students according to their skills.
- Develop and maintain an appropriate instructional plan for individual students, including selection of appropriate repertoire.
- Maintain student engagement and encourage timely progress and skill development.
- Communicate effectively with students and colleagues, including the Head of Music Program, the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts, and/or the Registrar's Office as needed.
- Maintain and utilize institutional accounts for communication and assessment, including email, learning management system, and assessment platform(s).
- Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades; submit class rosters and grades by the deadlines established by the institution.

Work environment
Position typically works in a music studio environment.
Physical demands
Requires standing/walking/sitting for extended periods. May occasionally lift 10/15 lbs.
Travel required
May travel infrequently on College business.
Required education and experience
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Prior instructional experience in either an individual or group setting.
Preferred education and experience
- Master's degree and/or certification in guitar performance/pedagogy
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Pre-employment criminal background checks.
