Technical Studies Adjunct Instructor

Adjuncts are essential to Liberty University's mission of Training Champions for Christ. It is expected that an adjunct member models a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engages in an active commitment to, and experience of, personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed Christian worldview. Adjuncts should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a means to a significant educational end.

They should strive to employ a variety of techniques for the development of good learning conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and, insofar as it is possible, provide for individual differences, abilities, and interests.

Job Summary

The Technical Studies Adjunct Instructor is a part-time position. The instructor will engage students with classroom and lab instruction using the NCCER curriculum. Lab activities must be per curriculum requirements, but most importantly, hands-on activities need to prepare students for a career in the Plumbing field. This position will require in-person work at an off-campus instructional site in Altavista, VA. Instructors must maintain communication with students.

Qualifications and credentials

Education and Experience

The Technical Studies Instructor must have a minimum of four years of field experience and have a journeyman's plumbing license. Applicant's resume must demonstrate this experience and should reflect both residential and commercial work. Instructors will need to provide industry-recognized licenses or certifications. It is preferred that the instructor have a college degree.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer skills.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • May be required to travel
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds. However, must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to perform work related to the trade.
Work Environment

This position will require the employee to work in a setting similar to fieldwork. This can include working in uncontrolled climates, loud work areas, and hazardous conditions.
