Instructional Assistant – Special Education (Project SEARCH)

C. Glass High School, Lynchburg, Virginia
Start Date: Immediately
Salary Grade: Classified Pay Schedule A or B (non‑exempt)
Reports to: Building Administrator
Position SummaryAssist instructors and other professionals in supporting special education students. Provide paraprofessional support, plan and organize internship development, maintain written reports, teach vocational skills, and collaborate with staff, students, families, employers, and business partners.
Essential Functions- Assist the Project SEARCH instructor with assigned duties and specialized tasks.
- Support individuals or small groups in reinforcing instructional material.
- Deliver programmed practice activities, task analyses, and repetitions.
- Participate in large and small group activities.
- Guide and support students at internship sites.
- Assist with student specific needs and report progress.
- Supervise students during unstructured time (e.g., lunch).
- Assist students with job development outside of internship projects.
- Perform related work as required.
- Collaborate with host businesses and present professionally.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 60 credit hours from an accredited post‑secondary institution or career‑technical facility, or an associate’s degree, or completion of the Para Pro assessment.
- Ability to stand, walk, move, climb, carry, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, handle, push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimal travel within the City of Lynchburg. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and use of hands. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
