Under the general direction of the Principal or designee, the High School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in mathematics aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning. The teacher fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students.
This role contributes to student success academically and socially by promoting analytical thinking, real-world application of mathematical concepts, and adherence to School Board policies and applicable federal and state laws.
The purpose of this position is to build a pool of certified candidates in a high-demand field in LCS who can:
- Deliver standards-based mathematics instruction aligned to Virginia Standards of Learning.
- Promote student achievement in mathematical concepts, reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Prepare students to be critical thinkers and effective problem-solvers.
- Support the division’s mission to serve every child, every day.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate mathematics lessons aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning.
- Teach mathematical concepts including, but not limited to, algebra, geometry, statistics, and higher-level mathematics courses as assigned.
- Assess student performance through formative and summative assessments; use results to adjust instruction.
- Foster student understanding of mathematical concepts, problem-solving strategies, and real-world applications.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and assessment data.
- Create a positive and structured classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support cross-curricular connections and instructional improvement.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding academic performance and expectations.
- Participate in professional development to maintain licensure and enhance instructional practices.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with a Mathematics endorsement.
- Experience teaching high school-aged students is preferred.

- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
