Instructional Assistant - Special Education General

Location: Bedford Hills Elementary School, Lynchburg, Virginia
Reports to: Building Administrator
Position SummaryWorks collaboratively with special education and classroom teachers, as well as other professionals, to support the academic and social/emotional growth of students, including IEP goals, objectives, and/or accommodations.
Essential Functions- Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning objectives and standards.
- Assists with small group learning activities.
- Provides instructional support during online learning.
- Assists with the development of students’ social/emotional skills.
- Supports students in learning classroom/school routines and procedures.
- Provides supervision and a safe environment for students during structured and unstructured times such as lunch, recess, transitions, loading/unloading of buses and any other assigned duties.

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post‑secondary institution or career‑technical facility; or an Associate’s Degree; or completed the Para Pro assessment.
- Some experience in working with children.
Skills and Abilities
- This position requires periods of standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling—ability to lift 25 lbs.
