Job Overview

Adjuncts are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. As an adjunct, you will model a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engage in a biblical worldview, and view teaching as a means to a significant educational end. You will endeavor to employ a variety of techniques for creating good learning conditions and to address individual differences, abilities, and interests.

The Technical Studies Adjunct Instructor is a part‑time position that requires in‑person work at an off‑campus instructional site in Altavista, VA.

Responsibilities
  • Classroom instruction and management
  • Lab instruction and management using the NCCER curriculum
  • Perform and supervise trade‑related work
  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Use classroom‑related technology (Canvas, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strictly adhere to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of four years of field experience as a carpenter, with both residential and commercial work reflected in the resume
  • Provider of industry‑recognized licenses or certifications
  • Preferred: a degree and/or licenses or certificates related to the field
Abilities and Competencies
  • Communication and comprehension: effectively communicate verbally and in writing, convey clear, well‑articulated information, and represent Liberty University professionally
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Problem‑solving: reason, analyze information, and apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems
  • Public communication skills allowing professional representation of Liberty University
Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • May be required to travel
  • Must be able to sit for deskwork, stand, walk, climb stairs, handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly required to perform work related to the trade
Working Conditions

This position involves fieldwork in uncontrolled climates, loud work areas, and hazardous conditions. The employee will work onsite at the instructional site.

Compensation

Part‑time; courses are typically paid at $800 per load hour.
