Behavior Coach
The Behavior Coach will collaborate with the principal and staff members in effecting positive behavior change in students by developing interventions, utilizing PBIS and division resources, working directly with students who have violated the student code of conduct, connecting the school/home/community in designing positive behavior support plans, and working with staff in tracking data of students both behaviorally and academically.
Demonstrates a strong foundation in positive behavior supports
Designs and implements multi-faceted behavior interventions based on data, including positive behavior support plans for identified students
Communicates (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals
Collaborates with all members of the school community
Maintains confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and school employees
Understands and works with the various support systems available in the school and community
Understands and follows district policies and guidelines when dealing with violations of the student code of conduct
Provides problem-solving and social skills instruction for identified students
Serves as a positive role model for students and helps them to learn how to self-monitor their behavior
Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle emotionally charged situations
Coaches others to apply effective behavior management techniques
Possesses a basic understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods

Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology (or working toward)
Virginia Teaching license preferred or eligible to apply
Experience in training or coaching education professionals
Ability to conduct telephone-based or in-person interviews, data collection, and data entry.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, empathy, and relationship building.
Ability to interact in a non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and persons experiencing a wide range of social conditions.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment in responding to client issues and concerns.
Ability to adapt to changing environments and receive constructive feedback.
Knowledge of and experience with the Lynchburg City Schools organization, policies, and practices (preferred).
Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, establishing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships.
Strong time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking).
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency with use of computers (desktop, laptop, tablet).
Proficiency with use of mobile devices (smartphones, mobile apps).
Solid knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office and Google Drive, and ability to learn new technical programs/practices as needed.
Solid knowledge and understanding of equitable practices that create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for LCS staff, students, and community members.

Reliable transportation is necessary. Travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed. Travel for Professional Learning conferences and training as needed.
