Music Theory Tutor & Grader — Part-Time

School of Music student workers support the administrative and production needs of the School of Music. Daily functions include supporting the practice rooms, classes, ensembles, concerts, andrecitals throughout each semester.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grade student assignments for music theory and musicianshipcourses under faculty direction and provide tutoring services for students in music theory and musicianship courses.

Basic Functions:

• Grade music theory and musicianship assignments
• Tutor at 1-2 tutoring sessions each week
• Other administrative tasks as assigned
• Provides excellent customer service to the professors and students of the School of Music.
• Communicates effectively through both written and spoken meanswith supervisor, professors, and students.
• Represents and serves the School of Music in a professional,kind, and humble manner.
• Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
• Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Minimum:

• Self-motivated and organized
• Able to work independently
• Must be a School of Music major
• Willingness to maintain confidentiality of student information
• Hire is based on recommendation by Music Theory professor
• Minimum GPA: 3.0

Preferred:

• Preferred GPA: 3.5 or above
• Excellent level of responsibility, trustworthiness,reliability, and organization

• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writingto convey clear, well articulated information.

• Strong organizational skills.
• Computer skills – Microsoft Suite

Problem Solving

• Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, andapply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

• Rarely required to travel across campus
• Regularly required to sit to perform deskwork or type on akeyboard.
• Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to moveabout the campus.
• Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order toconduct business.
• Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle(or LU vehicles) may be required for travel. Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval,and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.
