Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with the Liberty School of Aeronautics and FAA regulations and procedures. Prepare schedules, maintain records, and ensure that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by each student in each flight course. Maintain high levels of aeronautics and flight training knowledge. Maintain high proficiency in flight instruction skills. Accomplish the additional duties assigned by the respective supervisor.

Functions And Responsibilities
  • Provide flight training and mentorship in alignment with the Liberty University School of Aeronautics (LUSOA) Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Training Course Outline (TCO), and Liberty’s mission of Training Champions for Christ.
  • Ensure students are scheduled appropriately, monitor their training progress, initiate stage checks, and complete all course requirements and documentation, including accurate record-keeping in MFT, logbooks, and final grades.
  • Promote and enforce adherence to the LUSOA Safety Program and Federal Aviation Regulations. File safety reports as necessary and ensure aircraft used are in safe, airworthy condition, reporting any discrepancies immediately.
  • Maintain open communication with supervisors regarding availability and schedule. Stay current with continuing education through meetings, standardization training, and instructor development programs.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and improvement efforts. Assist the Director of Flight Operations with special projects as assigned.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Credentials

Satisfactory completion of the FAA Part 141 Flight Evaluation(s) set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration and the School of Aeronautics approved training program is required. Failure to successfully complete the required flight evaluation within 30 days will result in termination of employment.

Education And Experience
  • Minimum of Bachelor degree preferred.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Airplane Single Engine Land (Advanced training encouraged: CFII, MEI, etc.).
  • Aircraft piloting skills, including familiarity with and ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply effective instructional technique in the classroom and in flight.
  • Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and LUSOA Academic, administrative, and operational procedures and requirements.
  • Must hold a current Third Class FAA Medical Certificate.

Working Conditions Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a small single-engine or multi-engine general aviation aircraft and office space that is well lit and temperature controlled.
