POSITION SUMMARY

Performs paraprofessional work while assisting classroom teachers and assistant students in achieving established goals. This position may also assist students with disabilities on a one-on-one basis to achieve established educational goals and objectives, with personal care and mobility, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of a classroom teacher and evaluated by the school principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
  • Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning objectives introduced by the teacher.
  • Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by the teacher.
  • Assists with large and small group activities.
  • Guides independent study and other work assigned by the teacher.
  • Reports student problems to the teacher and assists with student problems.
  • Assists with loading and unloading buses.
  • Supervises students during unstructured time such as lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Assists with student routines.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Help maintain order in the classroom; monitor students to keep them on task.
  • Assist students with personal care.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post‑secondary institution or career technical facility, or an Associate’s Degree, or successful completion of the Para Pro assessment.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
