The Advanced Development Unit seeks a self-motivated technologist to help develop the products, tooling, and manufacturing methods of the future.
LocationOn-site in Lynchburg, Virginia
Your Day to Day as an Advanced Development TechnologistThe selected candidate will work with a team of open minded engineers and technical personnel to:
- Design and draft tooling concepts using 3D modeling software
- Oversee tooling fabrication through tool requests with internal machinists or procurements with external vendors
- Develop and iterate on tooling designs and manufacturing methods to improve quality and repeatability.
- Develop advanced manufacturing processes for next generation components and operate CNC mills to manufacture prototypes.
- Design and execute development workscopes independently and in teams to resolve fabrication issues and generate process improvement ideas.
- Communicate the results of development workscopes by authoring detailed reports documenting areas of success, concern, and opportunity.
- Participates and/or leads project teams to solve problems or initiate new projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a minimum of 15 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
- Must be proficient in 3D modeling and component design.
- Must have prior experience with CNC mills and other machining equipment.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and skills is an absolute must.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative design team is required.
- Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities is required.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral, are a must.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
