As an Engineering Technician in our Lynchburg, VA R&D facility, you will support the development and validation of hardware used in ANDREW’s distributed antenna systems (DAS). You’ll work directly with RF, digital, and mechanical engineers to test prototypes, troubleshoot circuit boards, and support product development from concept through production. This is a hands‑on lab role where you’ll work with test equipment, circuit boards, and engineering prototypes to ensure designs perform as expected before they reach customers.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Testing and troubleshooting circuit boards and hardware systems in an engineering lab environment
  • Using electronic test equipment (such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and related instruments) to validate designs and support product development
  • Reading and interpreting schematics to assist with diagnosing circuit‑level issues
  • Performing rework on printed circuit boards, including SMT and through‑hole components
  • Supporting engineers with prototype validation and development testing
  • Ordering parts and managing inventory of components and lab supplies for R&D projects
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assembling test fixtures used for engineering validation
  • Building cable assemblies to support lab testing
  • Maintaining test equipment and supporting the equipment calibration database
  • Assisting with document control activities in SAP
  • Supporting occasional packing, shipping, and receiving activities for engineering hardware
Optional / Nice‑to‑Have Responsibilities
  • Designing printed circuit boards using Mentor / Siemens PADS or similar PCB design tools
Required Qualifications For Consideration
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field—or equivalent hands‑on electronics technician experience
  • Extensive experience working with electronic hardware in a lab or development environment (typically 10+ years preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and assembly drawings for RF or digital hardware assemblies
  • Experience troubleshooting and testing electronic circuits in a lab environment
  • Strong organizational skills for tracking parts, supplies, and equipment
  • Ability to occasionally lift test equipment weighing up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to occasionally climb a stepladder to access cable trays (approximately 9 ft ceiling height)
You Will Excite Us If You
  • Have experience reworking SMT components on circuit boards
  • Have experience troubleshooting RF, digital, or power supply circuits
  • Are comfortable using electronic test equipment such as:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Spectrum analyzers
    • Network analyzers
  • Have experience with printed circuit board design tools such as Mentor / Siemens PADS
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills when collaborating with engineers and cross‑functional teams
  • Are able to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines
  • Are a self‑starter with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
