Overview
The Access Control System Support Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service while processing university‑wide key and badge requests. The role ensures that only approved individuals possess valid credentials and that the integrity of both key/core and card access systems is maintained. Working independently with good judgment and discretion is essential.
Responsibilities- Directly supports the Access Control Supervisor.
- Customer service: receive and process phone calls, emails, and walk‑in requests.
- Collaborate with the Liberty University Card Services Department to obtain employee status and card information for badge requests.
- Complete approved key requests according to department procedures.
- Communicate effectively with field technicians across departments regarding work orders and projects.
- Work with Locksmiths to ensure all keys are accurately recorded in the current keying system.
- Distribute keys and provide proper documentation of key transactions.
- Apply standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Access Control field.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Access Control System software.
- Work a flexible schedule as needed, including nights and weekends.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and industry benchmarks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1+ year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous access control programming experience preferred.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and communications skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to reason, analyze information, and apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems.
- Excellent computer and organizational skills.
- Must regularly lift 50+ pounds.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance.
- Full‑time position based in Lynchburg, VA (in‑office).
- Flexible schedule with occasional nights and weekends.
- Physical requirement: ability to lift 50+ pounds.
