Position Overview:

As our Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring materials selected in design, analysis, and prototyping activities for new nuclear systems are compatible and acceptable.

Location:

On-site in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office Your Day to Day as a Materials Engineer:
* Perform materials engineering duties in support of procurement, fabrication, joining and testing of raw material commodities.
* Provide innovative, technically significant, and economically critical material solutions in support of design and manufacturing of components.
* Oversee activities associated with material characterization.
* Perform failure analysis activities and identify failure modes of materials.
* Prepare material performance specifications.
* Prepare material evaluations and specifications for use in additive manufacturing applications.
* Communicate material related technical concepts across all levels of the organization and with the customer.
* Provide direction to weld development activities related to material issues.
* Work with design and manufacturing engineering to resolve materials joining, machining and processing issues before and during manufacturing.
* Develop, maintain and apply materials and material solutions to meet project thermal, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and chemical requirements.

Required Qualifications:

* A bachelor's degree in engineering (i.e. Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or similar discipline) or physics is required.
* A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a metallurgical/materials/manufacturing engineering environment is required.
* Must have relevant engineering experience along with technical expertise and communication skills to coordinate multiple engineering activities simultaneously.
* Must have additive manufacturing experience.
* Must have hands-on experience and ability to work in a laboratory environment
* Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication.
* Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
