We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Engineering Manager to join our on-site manufacturing team in Lynchburg, VA. This role works closely with project engineers and senior leadership and serves as the on-site extension of a remote Engineering Manager.
This position is designed as a succession role
, offering a clear path to advance into the Engineering Manager position as the current manager approaches retirement.
Serve as the on-site liaison for the remote Engineering Manager
Support daily manufacturing and engineering operations
Troubleshoot technical and process issues on the production floor
Assist in developing and improving manufacturing processes, methods, and documentation
Collaborate with quality, production, design engineering, and maintenance teams
Support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives
Assist with implementation of new equipment, technology, and process validations
Ensure compliance with ISO 13485 and AS9100 standards
Prepare to transition into full Engineering Manager responsibilities
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Plastics, or related field)
Experience
3–5 years of experience in plastics manufacturing or injection molding
Leadership potential or prior supervisory experience preferred
Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (medical, aerospace, automotive) a plus
Knowledge of tooling, mold design, process optimization, and quality systems
Skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Hands-on approach in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Excellent communication skills, including coordination with remote leadership
Strong organizational and prioritization skills
Additional RequirementsOn-site presence required daily
Comfortable collaborating with remote leadership via video, messaging, and email
Strong interest in long-term career growth into senior leadership
