The Lead Advisor, Manufacturing Engineer serves as the technical and strategic leader for the design and development of an advanced metallic nuclear fuel fabrication production line. This role oversees end-to-end engineering activities including concept development, process definition, equipment specification, system integration, and production readiness. The position ensures that manufacturing systems meet stringent nuclear industry requirements for safety, quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

What

You'll Do Day-To-Day
  • Manufacturing System Architecture
    - Define the full manufacturing architecture for an advanced nuclear fuel production line, including workflow design, equipment layout, material flow, and process sequencing.
  • Process Development & Optimization
    - Lead development, validation, and optimization of fabrication processes such as uranium metal handling, rod production, assembly, welding, machining, and inspection.
  • Technical Leadership & Advisory
    - Serve as the senior technical advisor to project leadership, engineering teams, and stakeholders; provide authoritative guidance on manufacturing technologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Equipment & Technology Selection
    - Identify, evaluate, and specify advanced manufacturing equipment, automation systems, robotics, and quality control technologies suited for nuclear fuel fabrication.
  • Integration & Commissioning
    - Oversee integration of equipment, controls, and support utilities; lead commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and final qualification of the production line.
  • Safety, Quality, & Regulatory Compliance
    - Ensure all manufacturing systems and processes comply with nuclear regulatory requirements, QA standards, environmental guidelines, and safety programs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    - Work closely with the advance reactor developer, product design, quality assurance, operations, procurement, and facilities engineering to align manufacturing capabilities with product and project needs.
  • Risk Management & Problem Solving
    - Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve complex engineering challenges related to equipment performance, process reliability, and product conformity.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    - Lead creation of manufacturing documentation including specifications, process instructions, qualification protocols, and engineering change records.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    - Drive adoption of emerging technologies, digital manufacturing approaches, and process improvement methods to increase efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of nuclear industry experience is required or extensive equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Extensive experience in design and implementation of complex manufacturing systems, ideally in nuclear, aerospace, or highly regulated industries.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear quality standards (e.g., NQA-1), regulatory frameworks, and safety principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in automation, robotics, process engineering, and equipment specification.
  • Expertise in high tech precision welding.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage technically complex projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear communication skills to explain the complex in a simple, practical and pragmatic way.
  • Experience in nuclear fuel fabrication or related precision manufacturing fields.
  • Experience with supporting developing companies in nuclear supply chain.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other systematic process improvement methodologies.

Total Rewards Package

  • Salary: $150,000 - $212,000, and may also include annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
