Welding Engineer
Location:
On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia
Your Day to Day as a Welding Engineer:
- Improving existing welding operations and developing new welding processes and applications.
- Manages projects to achieve company objectives through proposal, scoping, execution and reporting phases.
- Works with production welding engineers and shop floor personnel to understand existing processes.
- Works with customer representatives to understand and achieve project goals.
- Proposes and investigates new welding techniques or joint designs to meet program objectives.
- Investigaes modifications to existing welding processes to improve process margin.
- Programs CNC welding equipment.
- Prepares welding procedures, drawings, and electronic shop floor routing documents.
- Prepares customer submittals to gain approval and transmit information through formal and informal channels.
- Operates welding equipment on a limited basis for development purposes only.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Materials Joining Engineering, or equivalent is required.
- Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Welding engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3D modeling skills with a willingness to learn Siemens Solid Edge.
- Familiarity with nondestructive and destructive methods for weld quality.
- Experience with GTAW, Laser and Electron Beam welding.
- Metal additive manufacturing experience (especially laser power bed fusion, electron beam DED, or binder-job is beneficial.

Pay: $65,370 - $121,410
