- Location: Lynchburg, VA 24503 (Virginia travel nursing job)
- Unit/Setting: Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (float to Geriatric and Child/Adolescent behavioral health units as needed)
- Start Date: 03/23/2026 (orientation every other Monday)
- End Date: 06/20/2026
- Assignment Length: 13-week travel contract
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekends: Every 2–3 weekends
- Call: None
- Openings: 1
- Experience: Recent Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) experience in an inpatient/acute behavioral health setting (2+ years of relevant work history requested for submission)

Experience:
Prior travel nursing assignment experience required - Charge Nurse
Experience:
Required (non-negotiable) - EMR: Cerner experience required (non-negotiable)
- License: Active RN license (copy of Nursys/license required for submission)
- Certifications: BLS required; CPI required (may be obtained on-site if not currently active)
- Compliance: Ability to complete background screening and submit credentialing items at least 1 week prior to start; additional Virginia Psych background required upon start
- Professional Standards: Comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment alongside students and new hires; committed to a supportive, patient-centered care environment
- Provide therapeutic nursing care to adult psychiatric patients in an acute inpatient setting
- Complete comprehensive assessments, develop and update individualized plans of care, and document accurately in Cerner EMR
- Maintain a safe milieu using de-escalation techniques, close observation, and appropriate crisis response
- Administer medications, monitor therapeutic response, and assess for adverse effects
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary behavioral health team (psychiatry, social work, therapy, and nursing) to support treatment goals and discharge planning
- Serve as Charge RN as assigned, supporting staffing flow, unit priorities, and clinical decision-making
- Float to Geriatric and Child/Adolescent psych units as needed while maintaining scope of practice and safety standards
- Support onboarding and a learning-focused environment by modeling best practices and guiding students/new hires
