At BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT), we are a U.S.
-based company and a leading manufacturer of naval nuclear reactors. We’re looking to expand our team in Lynchburg, VA with Machinists.
- Read and interpret design drawings, blueprints, and procedures.
- Perform calculations to determine accurate setups and layouts for machining tasks.
- Select tooling, machine feeds and speeds, lubricants and fixtures.
- Perform machining operations safely, adjusting as needed to maintain tight tolerances, ensure quality, and productivity standards.
- Inspect work pieces to verify conformance with specifications using measuring instruments.
- Perform over‑inspections of work completed by other machinists per company procedures.
- Monitor equipment performance and conduct or assist with routine maintenance and repairs.
- Work with engineering staff to revise or improve procedures, drawings and determine optimal equipment/tooling setups.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records, logs and documentation related to all work.
- Utilize a range of manual and automated machinery, precision measuring tools and hand tools efficiently and safely.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One of the following: a completed Machining Diploma (minimum 2‑year accredited program) or completion of an Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Machining program by July 2026.
- State Certified Machinist Journeyman’s Card, or the training must be completed prior to July 2026; otherwise the candidate must complete an apprenticeship program.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in manufacturing machining or tool making (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Military Service equivalent to pay grade E‑6 or above, including Navy classifications such as Machinery Repairman, U32A Computer Numerically Controlled Machinist, or U33A NAMTS Inside Machinist.
- Successful candidates must meet Work Keys assessment standards.
- Must be highly motivated, with a strong focus on attention to detail, and a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Pay: $33.76 per hour. All candidates must be U.S. citizens and will be required to complete a pre‑employment check, drug screening and a background investigation.
