Reporting to the Fabrication Manager, the CNC Machinist (Lathe/Mill) is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes and milling machines to manufacture precision-machined components. Working under the guidance of ACS corporate leadership, this position ensures parts are produced in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and production schedules. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and committed to maintaining efficient machining operations while delivering high-quality results.
RequirementsDuties and Responsibilities
- Program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes and milling machines to produce precision components in a safe and productive manner.
- Review and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to ensure accurate machining and part production.
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and other inspection equipment to verify compliance with required tolerances and GD&T specifications.
- Select, install, and maintain cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and related tooling while performing routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
- Load and unload castings, raw materials, and finished parts safely while confirming all completed work meets established quality requirements.
- Work closely with production team members to maintain workflow efficiency and support a clean, organized, and safe machine shop.
- Follow all manufacturing procedures, quality standards, company policies, and workplace safety requirements throughout the production process.
- Accurately read and use a tape measure to verify dimensions and assist with production tasks.
- Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
High school diploma or GED required.
Technical education or machining certification is preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience programming and operating CNC lathes and milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, apply GD&T principles, and use precision measuring equipment with accuracy.
Experience with hand tools, machine tooling, and setup procedures is required. Familiarity with CNC ROTAX controls and manual lathe programming is a plus.
Ability to perform in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while effectively managing changing production priorities.
Must be willing to work overtime, extended hours, and weekends as required to meet production demands.
Position requires frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and working at floor level throughout the shift.
Must be able to safely operate power hand tools and other shop equipment.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
