General Position Summary
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner works as part of the clinic provider team, performing a variety of direct patient services, including assessments, diagnoses, implementation of treatments, evaluations, and monitoring of general patient management plans for clinic patients. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner performs these functions under the general supervision of a licensed physician in a primary health care setting.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Relations:
- Obtains complete medical history from patient, family, and previous records.
- Explains treatment to patients and families.
- Provides culturally sensitive health education and counseling.
Staff Relations / Team Building:
- Consults with physicians and other members of the health care team as necessary.
- Facilitates communication between clinical and non‑clinical staff.
- Performs other duties required by the Johnson Health Center to meet primary health care goals.
Clinical Duties:
- Assesses, diagnoses, implements treatment, evaluates, and monitors patients’ health status.
- Performs complete physical examinations on patients.
- Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x‑ray studies based on clinical guidelines.
- Diagnoses acute and chronic illnesses based on clinical findings, laboratory and imaging reports, and diagnostic procedures according to approved protocols.
- Formulates, initiates, and monitors patient management plans with supervision of a physician.
- Provides routine preventive physical examinations for children from birth to 18 years.
- Refers patients requiring hospitalization or specialized care to supervising physicians, emergency department physicians, or other specialists.
- Provides emergency care and treatment, including CPR, IV fluids, and emergency medication ordering; sutures lacerations and splints acute orthopedic injuries within scope of practice.
- Stresses preventive health care measures and supplies educational materials.
- Participates in the pediatric on‑call rotation and works in the immediate care clinic on Saturdays.
- Performs other duties required by the Johnson Health Center to provide primary health care.
- Physical attendance is essential for performing the job functions.
Administrative Duties:
- Reviews other providers’ notes per the "Chart Review Policy" of the Johnson Health Center.
- Maintains patient records to comply with required standards and obtains physician countersignatures where necessary.
- Closes all patient charts within 72 hours and conducts regular chart reviews.
- Attends all medical staff meetings, huddles, and participates in the Johnson Health Center QI program.
Safety / Infection Control
Activities:
- Attends mandatory OSHA infection control seminars and follows OSHA guidelines, including "Universal Precautions."
- Abides by all Johnson Health Center infection control policies and acute response measures in public health situations.
Other Functions:
- Abides by the Code of Conduct per the Corporate Compliance Manual.
- Demonstrates a personal and professional commitment to Johnson Health Center and its mission.
